FRIENDSHIPS ARE HARDER THESE DAYS

Friendships are harder to make these days. This is the conclusion I have come to in this short life of mine. When I was much younger, I used to be very picky when it came to choosing and having friends. But over time, I loosened up and became more open to the idea of having a large bunch of friends.

But I have realized that the fact that you and someone attend the same church, serve in the same unit doesn’t make you friends. The fact that you and someone are pursuing the same thing or find yourselves in the same situation doesn’t necessarily mean you two should be friends.

Last month, I had to go to my alma mater to collect my certificate, I met 2 people there and we quickly formed a bond, we gisted and shared experiences but when we were about to collect our certificates, mine had a challenge and the people I thought were going to stand by me disappeared within the twinkle of an eye.

That day, I learned a hard lesson; friendships are not formed that way, also DON’T EVER EXPOSE YOURSELF TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T PROVED HIS/HER LOYALTY.

I have been na├»ve when it comes to friendships and I paid dearly for it. I was too trusting and too open, unfortunately, the days we are in now, you have to be careful who you trust and expose yourself to cos you may just be giving your enemy the instrument with which to destroy you. I will reiterate it again, the fact that you and someone work in the same place, go to work together, doesn’t mean you guys should be friends.

People will be loyal to whoever they want to be loyal to; don’t feel bad if it isn’t you.

Prayerfully choose your friends; the truth is your friends determine where you will end up in life.

People come into your life for different reasons, some people come because they admire you, some come to discover your secret, and some are in your life because they are envious and jealous of you.

Fela Durotoye once said people you allow in your life will either multiply who you are, subtract from you, add to you or divide you.

One thing you should never ever forget is this;

Some people are in your life for a season, some are there for a lifetime. Don’t confuse them together; understand the purpose and the reason why people are in your life. If their season is over, don’t be afraid to let them go.

Bishop T. D. Jakes speaking about the three types of friends; Confidants, Constituents and Comrades said, confidants are those people in your life that love you unconditionally.  They are into you. The confidants are the few people in your life that are for you.

Constituents – they are not into you.  They are into what you are for.  They are for what you are for. As long as you are for what they are for, they will walk with you, work with you and labor with you – but never think they are for you.

Comrades- These people are not for you, nor are they for what you are for – they are against what you are against. Expect the constituents and comrades to leave you and desert you after a while.

The Bible says, there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. There are still people whose friendship are like family, when you have them, hold them close and never let them go. If you have a friend like this; make sure you give them a shout out today.

Love & peace, your friend.
