The Diary of a Glasses Wearing Girl

I remember the first time I wore medicated glasses, I couldn’t walk properly. It felt like the floor had steps. I couldn’t look down; I had to look straight up when walking. I was so scared I was going to fall from an imaginary step so I avoided wearing the glasses altogether.

I complained to the doctor and he told me when I get used to the glass, I wouldn’t feel like I was walking on steps. It took a while but eventually, the floor was straight again, lol.

It’s being a year now that I started wearing glasses; again, this time constantly. A year ago, the glass wouldn’t stay on my nose, and if it did it felt like I was carrying the weight of the world on my nose. It was so bad that I had to put tissue on the bridge of my nose before I could wear the glass. It was so uncomfortable; many times I wished I didn’t have to wear it. But then again, with time my nose learnt to accommodate its new neighbour.

I remember then that many times I would forget the glass at home while going out especially when I was going to church. I wasn’t used to wearing it, wasn’t used to taking it out along with me.

Wearing glasses changed my look drastically. I would dress up, and in mind, I’m looking fly, but all that would change immediately I put on the glass. I would go from looking fly to looking nerdish and I hated it, but there was nothing I could do about it. I have realised that wearing glasses has a way of changing your entire look. At the beginning, it was kind of depressing and it took a lot of getting used to, but give it time you would adjust to the look glasses gives you.

Sometimes I just imagine how I would look on my wedding day. I ask myself, would I wear contacts or would I wear the glasses? How would I do my hair? You see I have realised that there are certain ways you have to do your hair so that you can still look good with your glasses; because glasses changes everything.

Many people have told me you are more beautiful without your glasses, must you wear it every time? Thing is, I already know I’m more beautiful without the glasses, but would beauty make me see well?

To be continued

I would so much appreciate it if people (male & female) who wear glasses can write their own experiences and it would be posted here on the blog. I know we have similar challenges, have heard weird things or opinions from others; so please let’s make this fun by writing in. I would be delighted to share your experiences too. You can send yours to [email protected]

Thank you for reading. I can’t wait to hear from you. You can also share your thoughts by leaving a comment.

  1. I don't wear glasses so I don't have anything to say. Lol

  2. To think I always thought it was cool to wear glasses lol. But having the option of wearing contacts isn't so bad tho risky, atleast it helps with the nerdy look

    1. That's what a lot of people think, that wearing glasses is cool. My dear, If I had my way, nothing will bring me close to medicated glasses. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
